Of the various barcode symbologies used in the GS1 system, ITF-14 is the one best suited to direct printing on cases/boxes.

ITF-14 offers significant printing tolerance in terms of bar-space contrast and the width of bars/spaces. This means it supports distance scanning. All ITF-14 codes are framed by a thick printed border to increase scanning reliability.

ITF-14 barcodes can accommodate all 14 digits used in the GTIN.
